The Brazilian Handball Federation has removed its current coach, the Spanish Dani Gordo, from his post. just four months after having hired him to lead the team in the Central-South American championship, and later in one of the pre-Olympic tournaments, now postponed due to the coronavirus, to seek a place for the next Tokyo 2021 Games.
Gordo accepted the offer to coach the Brazilian National Team after the dismissal of Washington Nunes after falling in the semifinals of the Pan American championship. The current coach of the Viveros Herol Nava of the Sacyr Asobal League has been combining both positions since November.
Brazil got second place in the Central-South American championship played in January, losing by a single goal against Argentina in the tournament final; and he was waiting for the IHF to decide on the new dispute date for the pre-Olympic tournaments, framed in a group with Norway, Chile and South Korea.
However, the Brazilian Federation has announced the dismissal of Dani Gordo, in a decision that has surprised the coach, confined to his home, and that he told Efe that his dismissal it is “the biggest stick of” his “sports career”.
