Psychiatrists are already being trained in Germany to ventilate corona patients. In addition, the doctor’s joke circulates that one should beware of the disease if one does not want to be intubated by a neurologist.
This shows how urgently the doctors, who are already far too few, are needed now, and how painfully each of the 280 or so Polish colleagues in Brandenburg will be missing who, due to new quarantine rules from Warsaw, is no longer allowed to cross the border. After all, the State Medical Association has good news: Around 70 old doctors came out of retirement within a week to help. But a solution must be found in the long term.
Hopefully, after the crisis is over, adequate health care staffing will finally be ensured. It was foreseeable that there would be no reserves in the event of a crisis with the current permanent understaffing in hospitals.
