The entertainment giant Disney’s streaming service continues to grow: around five months after its launch in the United States, Disney + already has 50 million paying subscribers worldwide, the company said. The stock initially rose by seven percent after the exchange.
Disney opened the hunt for the market leader Netflix with the streaming service in November and immediately received a large flow of customers. Disney + scores with popular productions such as the “Star Wars” series “The Mandalorian” and previously relatively low prices.
The gap to Netflix remains large for the time being: The competitor recently had around 167 million customers. However, Netflix has also been in business for over ten years and in over 190 countries worldwide – Disney + has only been in a dozen so far.
The service has been available in Germany since March 24th.
