President of the Republic promotes the creation of pedagogical theme parks. The initiative will be experienced in Ciudad Libertad, where the Enrique José Varona University of Pedagogical Sciences is located, with whose professors he held a new work meeting.
In an era where training challenges are greater than ever, the President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, praised the initiative to establish a scientific pedagogical complex in Ciudad Libertad, and it was for more: he indicated to create an experimental pedagogical theme park and then expand the project to the entire country.
The Head of State held a new meeting with members of the Enrique José Varona University of Pedagogical Sciences. He enthusiastically reviewed the existence in other provinces of centers that meet the same conditions as Ciudad Libertad, albeit on a smaller scale, to expand the proposal, very conducive to the comprehensive training that these times demand.
Vice Prime Minister Roberto Morales Ojeda explained that The concept recovers Fidel’s original idea of turning what was the main headquarters of the dictatorship into a large educational complex for the instruction and training of the new generations at different levels of education.
The citadel houses everything from early childhood centers to higher education campuses, including the Museum of Literacy and other cultural and social facilities. It is a place – said Díaz-Canel – to link all knowledge, because education has no borders.
He described the idea as innovative and praised the possibilities that it would open up so that boys and girls, adolescents and young people, can also carry out extracurricular and even recreational activities, entertainment that it forms and cultivates them for life in the best values and demands of the 21st century with its new scientific-technical revolution.
Ena Elsa Velázquez Cobiella, head of the Ministry of Education (Mined), referred to the large spaces of Ciudad Libertad, which even allow the development of agricultural activities, including the protection and promotion of its extensive forest areas.
In the new meeting with the faculty of the Enrique José Varona University of Pedagogical Sciences (UCPEJV) —they had been postponed due to the prevention and control of COVID-19— compliance with the previously agreed-upon indications of the President of the Republic was evaluated .
Actions were evaluated to strengthen the training of History, Mathematics and Physics teachers, and the introduction of more and better motivational elements for students in the area of science. The introduction of scientific results and those related to neurosciences applied to education were also analyzed.
The DrC. Enrique Lamas reported on the enlistment of the first scripts for a program on History that will be broadcast on television, the production of authentic historical content for the Cubaeduca and Ecured networks, and an audiovisual project in coordination with Icaic and Cinesoft.
Among other priorities, he commented on the work to strengthen the teaching of history, with courses on universal history, Cuba and the Cuban constitutions; and the incorporation into study programs of subjects such as raciality, religion and women in the wars of independence.
Inquiring about the History program that will be produced for television, Díaz-Canel insisted that it must move away from the traditional, and be a novel proposal that encourages young people to see it and motivates them by history.
“It must be an interactive program that uses the new audiovisual codes and expresses itself in the language of young people.”
The DrC. Aurelio Quintana explained what has been done and what is done in the training of mathematics teachers at the UCPEJV and on the motivation of the students, which includes training and knowledge of the history of that science in conjunction with the Cuban Society of the specialty and other universities
He spoke about the program related to Robotics, which is carried out in coordination with Cinesoft, and a contest in favor of the culture of mathematics. The pedagogue reported that the specialty is obtaining better results, an example of which was the growth of those approved in the subject by five percent in the most recent evaluative cut.
On the teaching of Physics, the DrC spoke. Francisco Pedroso, who defended that the teaching of the subject must have a cultural and humanistic orientation; that the labs have to be attractive, and that the teacher should feel these changes as his own.
President Díaz-Canel —engineer and with a master’s degree in Sciences— had a pleasant exchange with the physicist. Clearly, this was a subject for which he felt a special attraction, according to the memories he shared.
Referring to the exact sciences, such as mathematics and physics, He stressed that Cuba needs and has to create a culture of innovation, and that – he clarified – must be formed from childhood.
On neurosciences applied to education, DraC. Caridad Hernández explained the closer ties of work and collaboration between the UCPEJV, the Center for Neurosciences (Cneuro) and the Central Institute of Pedagogical Sciences (ICCP), for the advancement in the studies of the neuroscientific foundations of education and to promote child development.
Díaz-Canel deliberately referred to the need to carry out scientific studies on the psychological and behavioral effects caused by COVID-19 in children, due to the social isolation that the pandemic has imposed. The time of confinement has been long, without the children having a direct influence from the school, he said.
He indicated linking neurosciences, psychology and pedagogy, among other sciences, in order to make an evaluation that allows to avoid future learning and behavior problems among infants, because this is a very complex situation that we still do not know how long it will last .
Olga Lidia Tapia Iglesias, member of the Secretariat of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba, and the Ministers of Higher Education, José Ramón Saborido Loidi, and of Culture, Alpidio Alonso Grau participated in the meeting between the Head of State and professors from the UCPEJV.
